Summer Fun & Madison Public Library's We Read Program

We Read Logo

From Madison Public Library about their We Read summer program:
This year MPL is trying something different (everything this year is different) - a program called We Read. We Read is a Madison-wide community celebration of reading - everyone is invited to participate no matter what kind of reading you’re doing! To be a part of We Read, all you have to do is find something to read that you love, share it with a friend or share it on social media and join in the conversation about our favorite ways to read. There is no registration, no tracking of books, or prizes. You can share how YOU read on our Instagram page, @madisonpubliclibrary. We are posting a different “We Read” theme every two weeks, like “We Read Outside” and “We Read With Our Ears”. People can also share their favorite reads and recommend them to others by using the hashtag #WeReadMadison. The website with all the information including downloadable posters, coloring sheets and the interactive zine is madisonpubliclibrary.org/weread.

Mystery Doug Fish

Why can't fish breathe on land?

Fish

BONUS Activity: Fish use their gills to breathe air that is in the water. It doesn’t look like there’s any air in a glass of water. But try this experiment. Fill a clear cup with water. Let it sit out on the counter for a few hours. Then look carefully at the sides of the cup. What do you notice? Try the experiment with hot water and cold water. See what happens!

Mystery Doug Mars

Why is Mars red?

Rocks

BONUS Activity: What color are the rocks where you live? With an adult, go outside and find a spot where you can see rocks and dirt — maybe in a park or in someone’s yard. Pick up some rocks. Take a close look. The rocks won’t all be the same color, but is there one color that’s more common than others? If the place you live was named for its rocks, what would it be called?
