Jefferson Middle School: Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books

Students have two options for Battle of the Books teams. Students may form teams of 2 to 4 students within their grade level to compete at the district level or form teams of 2 to 4 students across grade levels to compete at the state level. The state Battle of the Books program is sponsored by the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association. Each competition ends at that level.

The state and district teams have separate booklists. School competitions will be at the end of February for both the state and district competitions. The district competition is held in person at the beginning of March at a district middle school. The state competition is held online via Moodle, also at the end of February. Students are welcome to join both the district and state levels if they choose.

Once teams are formed, students will start reading books on the specific booklists. During team meetings, students will explore the books in depth, discuss the books’ major events, and write questions to practice for the competitions.

The 7th grade Jefferson team took 5th place out of 10 teams.

The 6th grade Jefferson team took 6th place out of 11 teams.

State Battle of the Books

The Jefferson team took 14th place out of 147 teams statewide in 2016! Congratulations!
